Writing a letter to the Black Ferns

Hi Bloggers,

On the 19th of October we wrote a letter each, to send to the Black ferns. The Black Ferns sent a letter asking us if we could write some letters of support to the players. They also sent us a few gifts. When we were writing our letter we had to write it on our Chromebooks first, once we wrote it, we go a teacher and have our writing checked for any spelling mistakes or if our punctuation was wrong. When it was checked we were given a piece of paper to write the letter on. We had to write the letter neatly. If there was any space left on the paper we could draw some pictures that were relevant to rugby and the Black Ferns. When I wrote the letter I had some space left on the paper so I drew a fern and a kiwi.

Trip to the Museum

Hello Bloggers,

On the 18th of October, Te Waka Ako went to the Auckland Museum. We were all put into 3 different groups. We left the school to go onto the bus at 9:00. It was 9:30 when we arrived, all the groups went into different rooms when we arrived. One of the rooms we when into was the volcano room, there were different rocks that we could look at and feel. There was another room inside the volcano room. There was a video of the news and a big screen with the sea, a few minutes later there was an eruption on the screen, the light were flashing on and off and the room was shaking. There was another volcano classroom where could feel different types of rocks that had to do with volcanoes. One of my favorite rooms was weird and wonderful because you could look at different types of bugs, look through a microscope and create our own butterfly. When we created our own butterfly you could chose if it flew fast or slow and you could chose if it had patterns or if it shined, you could also pick the colors in the butterfly. We also did a scavenger hunt at the museum, where we had to look for the items and add some facts about the item.

Circle Art

Hello Bloggers,

In the week of the Art Festival we made circle art. Mrs Sands showed us some maori patterns from a book and she showed us her circle art. First we had to use a small bucket lid to draw a circle, we needed to put the lid on the piece of paper we were drawing on and use the pencil and trace around the lid. The we had to get a small tin lid to draw a circle inside the bigger circle and trace around again. Next Mrs Sands told us we needed to draw some patterns we like and something that we like in the smaller circle. Once we finished doing the smaller version in our art book, then we would go show Mrs Sands. After we could use a bigger piece of square paper. We needed to use a bigger bucket lid for the bigger circle and trace around. Then we would use a smaller lid and trace around to make the smaller circle. Next we get a pencil and draw the patterns on the outside that we drew in the smaller version. Once we did that we would draw the picture inside the smaller circle. Then we went to show Mrs Sands and later we got to color the patterns in with pastels. We had to color the outside patterns first because Mrs Sands said that she would show us how to do some shading for the picture in the middle. I did some waves, korus, some curvy lines and zigzags for the patterns on the outside and on the inside I drew a lotus flower on the inside circle. Then we could pick if we would overline the pencil lines with silver or gold, I chose silver. Then once I finished coloring the outside patterns Mrs Sands showed us how she colored the greenstone necklace on her circle art. She got different types of green and also used some white to mix the colors. I colored the lotus pink, and for the shading I used some hot pink to make the shadows of some of the petals and for the background I used a minty green. Then when we finished all of the steps to do the art, the teachers would cut the circle out and we would get a silver or gold pastel ( if you chose silver you used silver and if you used gold you would use gold) to do a circle outline on the little bit of white that was on the outside of the circle, once we finished doing that we finished our circle art. There is a picture of my art here.

Bye Bloggers!

Night activities

Hi Bloggers,

Last week on the 10th of May the year sixes went to camp, we did a Burma trail and we played spotlight. A Burma trail is a trail set up through a jungle and you follow a rope through the bush. To play spotlight you need a torch a few people to play and you need it to be dark. Someone is the seeker, then you have around 20 to 40 seconds to run and find a place to hide.

First we played spotlight, there were two seekers and the others had to hide. I was hiding with Rosaline, Tyler and Jayne, we were hiding in a bush and after 1 or 2 minutes we got found.

Then we did the Burma trail, and I did it with Rosaline. It was dark and we couldn’t turn our torches on. The  parents kept scaring us.  After that we had hot chocolate, the night activities were really fun and we all enjoyed it.

Bye
